Chapter 12 Objectives:
1. Define motivation, and identify several theories of motivated behavior.
2. Describe Maslow’s hierarchy of motives.
3. Describe the physiological determinants of hunger.
4. Discuss the impact of external incentives and culture on hunger, and describe the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
5. Describe how researchers have attempted to assess common sexual practices.
6. Describe the human sexual response cycle, and discuss the impact of both hormones and psychological factors on sexual motivation.
7. Identify factors contributing to increased rates of pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease among today's adolescents.
8. Describe research findings on the nature and dynamics of sexual orientation, and discuss the place of values in sex research.
9. Describe the adaptive nature of social attachments, and identify both healthy and unhealthy consequences of our need to belong.
10. Describe the nature and sources of achievement motivation.
11. Distinguish between extrinsic and intrinsic achievement motivation, and identify factors that encourage each.
12. Discuss how managers can create and maintain a motivated, productive, and satisfied work force, and identify various styles of management.
